The Windmills of Suffolk

The list below is as near as possible a definitive list of known windmill sites in the county. Where possible we have created a link to an old photograph of the windmill that occupied (or occupies) the site. Please note that this is a work in progress. We shall be developing this list over time with the intention of it becoming a definitive list of mill sites. We shall be creating a similar list for known watermill sites as well and it is hoped that we shall soon have a resource as exhaustive as our neighbours in Norfolk.

Mills are organised alphabetically by the spelling of their full name – e.g. Great Thurlow is under G; Little Thurlow is under L, etc. Entries in bold indicate mill sites that still have substantial remains.

Please also note that the six-figure National Grid Reference is an approximate reference. When looking at an isolated grid reference, it actually covers quite an area when looking at a 1:25 000 scale Explorer map.
