We are delighted to be invited to visit the Food Museum (formerly the Museum of East Anglian Life) at Stowmarket on Sunday 1st October from 2 pm, following extensive work to Alton Watermill to return it to full working order. All being well some of the mill volunteers will be present to get the waterwheel turning and maybe the millstones too!
Nearby is the reconstructed windpump from the Minsmere marshes, rescued by Suffolk Mills Group in 1977 after it collapsed in February of that year. This has also been extensively repaired in the recent past.
The museum entrance is close to the town centre (postcode IP14 1DE), but you need to park in the Iliffe Way car park off Finborough Road, which also serves the Asda supermarket. Part of the car park is reserved for museum parking and costs £2.50 all day. The mills are several minutes walk from the museum entrance. For full details visit – www.foodmuseum.org.uk
Members are welcome to arrive early and try the museum’s Feast café. Museum entrance to Suffolk Mills Group members on the day will be free, so why not take in the rest of the exhibits?
